A really warm welcome

My name is Maggie Curran. I am a Traumatologist, EMDR Therapist, Counsellor, clinical and academic Supervisor and Tutor of counselling and supervision I am also hold a certificate in Adoption Counselling.

I have completed a Level 7 Diploma in Complex Trauma and PTSD. This allows me to work with clients who may be suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) following a life event such as a rape, car accident, burglary or mugging etc. or clients who may suffer from a more Complex trauma following childhood abuse, domestic violence, witnessing others being harmed or killed etc. If you have never been diagnosed with this conditions but have suffered any of the above I can help you with an assessment.

I offer EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Re-processing. EMDR is linked to the same processing that occurs during in REM sleep. I can provide you with more information if you are interested in this model of therapy.

I can offer a multi-disciplinary approach to counselling which includes Person-Centred approach, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution focused work. Specialising in Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, Relationship issues and many others. I can also offer pure CBT work.

I offer individual sessions, which can be open ended or for an agreed amount of time. Couples Therapy is also available.

My practice covers Heathrow, Uxbridge, West Drayton, Hayes, Slough and Windsor. My clients experience a safe, non-judgmental environment, which allows them to discuss issues in confidence. Currently I am working on-line so I can work with you regardless of your location.

The quality of the relationship I have with each client is of paramount importance to me, because without a relationship, therapy simply will not work. Drawing on both my professional and life experience I aim to empower my clients to find their own solutions.

I am a  Accredited member of NCS.

So… What can you expect from a counselling session? A counselling session normally last for 50 minutes. I will explain something that is called a “contract” to you at the start of your first session. This is not a legal contract but rather a contract of how you and I will work together so it will include days and times you have agreed to meet, perhaps how many session you may need. It will include something called confidentiality, here I  will explain that what you discuss is confidential between us but that that there are some exceptions to this, but it will always be explained to you. I  may ask to complete an assessment form which will capture information about you, again this will be explained but it is to help to me to work in your best interest by knowing certain information. During your session you can discuss anything that you feel is bothering you or upsetting you. You can do this in the knowledge that I am to trained to provide the space to help you discuss problems and feelings. As your counsellor, I  will support you and respect your views. I will help you develop insights and understanding of your problems

What would be the cost? My cost start at £50.00 for an individual client and £60.00 for couples. Trauma therapy involves many more assessments and so this is more expensive at £90.00 per session. The session last 50 minutes.

I have 2 session a week that I hold for those clients who are in receipt of benefits or are in low paid work so counselling is accessible to everyone.

Counselling Services

My theoretical background of integrating the principles of Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Solution focused work allows me to focus on the quality of the relationship between us.

These approaches have proved invaluable for clients dealing with issues including anxiety, depression, addiction, and relationship issues.

The relationships that I build with my clients are central to me being able to help them. Working collaboratively, building trust, valuing their beliefs and core values.

Above all I provide a safe and confidential space in a non- judgemental environment. This allows my clients to look at underlying issues and helps them to uncover repeated patterns of behaviour. This, in turn, helps them move to a more self-fulfilling way of being in the world.

Following my recent studies I am qualified to work with PTSD and CPTSD using a variety of trauma protocols such as PET (Prolonged Exposure Therapy) NET (Narrative Exposure Therapy) IRRT ( Imagery Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy) and KIDNET especially design to work with children.

Training and Supervision

I  can offer clinical and academic Supervision. I have taught all the CPCAB course from Level 2-Level 6 with excellent results. I am available to offer support  as I have a good understanding of criteria and can help you with your portfolio. I have experience in group supervision and personal development groups.

I have delivered inset training to schools on Attachment in the classroom, anxiety, autism FGM awareness and other subjects.

I am available to support students who may need some extra support in their counselling studies.

I have many years experience as a Counselling Supervisor. I offer CBT supervision and also supervise counsellors who practice other models of working. I offer clinical supervision for trainees and experienced therapists.

Having taught the Level 6 Supervision course to other counsellors I can confirm my thoughts, that good supervision is imperative for good practice.

I can be challenging in my approach and can help you become a more reflective practitioner and grow in confidence in relation to your ability. Working with challenging issues such as trauma requires support and a space to discuss the impact that our work can have on us as an individual.

Good practice suggests that professionals working with complex issues including Child Protection should have supervision. This allows them a forum to discuss any residue feelings they may be left with from working with complicated dynamics. I can offer this service to Schools, Nurseries and any other professionals who feel it may benefit their own Mental Heath by having this monthly support.

If you are interested in supervision please contact.me.  I would be more than happy to arrange a chat to see if we are a good fit.

The cost is £60.00 per hour

I offer lower rates for Level 4 counselling students.

Therapy for Parents and young people.

Parenting- The hardest job in the world, with no training.

I specialise in helping parents look at their parenting skills which can help them instill confidence into their children. I have worked for a local borough as a Parent Advisor for over ten years and have a wealth of experience in this field.

I currently supervise Senior Leadership Teams in Schools to help them explore how their work impact on them. By offering them a space to reflect on this it helps them work more effectively.

I help parents, whose children may have Special Needs, to look at how they can parent therapeutically, looking at attachment issues and early life trauma, and how these can seriously affect children at school as well as at home.

I’m a facilitator of the Freedom Programme which is a domestic violence awareness programme developed by Pat Craven. The aim of the programme is to help victims and survivors make sense of what has happened to them. This is an 11-week course that I run in conjunction with local councils.

I am trained facilitator of Therapeutic Story Writing. This is a way of working with metaphors so emotional issues are worked with in a way that does not overwhelm the child.

This is a ten-week course, working with a small group of children to support them with both emotional issues and literacy skills. I can offer this to schools at a reasonable cost.
